Honourable Mr. Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President of Mexico,

I would like to draw your attention to an urgent matter regarding a Dutch fugitive, mister Nelson Maatman, who according to his Dutch lawyer has applied for political asylum in Mexico.

Mister Nelson Maatman recently fled The Netherlands in order to avoid being prosecuted for crimes against children. The Public Prosecutor has charged mister Nelson Maatman with the criminal offence of Article 2, Book 2 of the Dutch Civil Code jo. Article 140 (2) of the Dutch Penal Code.

The Dutch Supreme Court in 2014, in her court order, prohibited and ordered the dissolution of the association “Vereniging Martijn”, on grounds that the association downplays the dangers of sexual contact of adults with young children and glorifies and promotes such contact. These activities constitute an actual and serious violation of the essential principle that the physical and sexual integrity of the child must be protected. The Supreme Court added that sexual contact between adults and young children is an actual and serious violation of the physical and sexual integrity of the child, as a result of which the child can suffer major and permanent psychological damage.

Despite this ban, Mr. Maatman illegally continued spreading the prohibited association online, for which the Dutch Public Prosecutor is prosecuting Mr. Maatman.

Mr. Nelson Maatman is also founder and chairman of the political party ‘PNVD’, a continuation of the prohibited association, which wishes to legalize and promote private possession of all forms of pornography, including child sexual abuse material. Moreover, his political party wishes to legalize and allow sex between adults and children over the age of 12.

Mexico is party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the ‘Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children child prostitution and child pornography’ and therefore, in the welfare and best interest of children I request your Honourable Excellency to act on Article 34 of the UNCRC and reject Mr. Nelson Maatman’s application for political asylum in Mexico and his effort to avoid his prosecution and trial in The Netherlands.
